Kelly Monaco Has Big Reason to Celebrate After General Hospital Exit

Kelly Monaco marked a personal milestone after leaving General Hospital, revealing that she had been alcohol-free for more than six months.

The 50-year-old actress shared the update on Instagram on September 15, posting a screenshot from a sobriety tracking app that showed six months and seven days without alcohol.

Monaco kept the post brief but acknowledged the milestone with a playful caption.

“Now the whole 6/7 thing makes sense! #duces ???❤️” she wrote.

The Kelly Monaco sobriety update drew support from several of her former General Hospital costars.

Brandon Barash commented, “Love this. Congrats! ???,” while Ingo Rademacher added, “??❤️.”

Lexi Ainsworth wrote, “So proud of you ? badass,” and Chloe Lanier responded, “Yasss Kelly!!! Hell yeah.”

Monaco did not share further details about her decision to stop drinking or her experience during the past six months.

The Kelly Monaco health update came after a major change in her professional life.

In August 2024, reports confirmed that Monaco would not return to General Hospital after 21 years of playing Sam McCall.

Monaco later responded to online discussion about her departure and expressed frustration over how the show had handled her character.

“When Billy Miller was fired, Sam’s storyline stopped. Stripping Sam of every characteristic she had,” she wrote in a since-deleted comment.

She added that the changes had gradually turned Sam into “a character that I did not recognize, let alone the audience.”

Monaco first joined General Hospital in 2003 and appeared in more than 2,000 episodes. Her performance as Sam earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2006.

Before her long-running Kelly Monaco General Hospital role, she played Livvie Locke on the spinoff Port Charles from 2000 to 2003.

She also competed on the first season of Dancing with the Stars and became the show’s first Mirrorball Trophy winner alongside professional partner Alec Mazo.

Following her General Hospital exit, Monaco largely stayed out of the spotlight. Her latest post gave fans a rare personal update while celebrating her six months sober milestone.
