King Charles’ Very Public Snub on Prince Harry’s Birthday Raises Eyebrows — Report

King Charles did not publicly mark Prince Harry’s 42nd birthday after his son returned to Britain. The monarch’s silence followed a palace rule that normally reserves public birthday tributes for senior working royals. Harry had received an exception for his milestone 40th in 2024. However, his current non-working status remained “no change” after the Sussexes’ UK return. The absence stood out because Meghan Markle publicly celebrated her husband with a family montage.

King Charles’ snub on Prince Harry’s birthday reportedly comes down to one rule

As per the HELLO! report, Prince Harry turned 42 in Britain. It marked his first birthday on British soil in four years. Meanwhile, Meghan Markle shared a family montage featuring Archie and Lilibet that morning. However, King Charles was not expected to post his own public message. The outlet explained that palace accounts typically reserve birthday tributes for “senior working royals.” Harry and Meghan left those roles in 2020.

Still, the rule had one notable exception. Charles publicly celebrated Harry’s milestone 40th birthday in 2024. The official royal account shared a photo and wished, “The Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!” Prince William and Kate also joined in. Their message read, “Wishing a Happy 40th Birthday to the Duke of Sussex.” However, there was no similar palace post for Meghan’s 45th birthday on August 4, 2026.

For context, the birthday silence followed fresh clarification about the Sussexes’ royal status. After their UK return, Charles directed a “letter of guidance” to senior officials. Lord Chamberlain Lord Benyon said there was “no change” to the couple’s position.

The guidance also said their Royal Highness styles should not be used. Additionally, Benyon described them as “private citizens.” That status explained why Harry’s birthday did not receive the same public treatment as senior working royals.
