Elon Musk Movie Scores Earlier Release Date Due to Huge Interest After World Premiere

The new documentary movie about Elon Musk will hit the theaters sooner than expected. The release date update comes shortly after its world premiere.

Bleecker Street has moved up the theatrical release of the documentary, Musk, to October 9, as Deadline reports. It was originally scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 16. However, the strong interest shown by the audience following its world premiere at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival on September 8 has led the company to move up its theatrical release.

The documentary has a run time of 3 hours and 45 minutes with a 10-minute intermission. Following its release on October 9 in New York and Los Angeles, it will be made available in theaters nationwide.

The controversy comes as the film heads toward its theatrical release

Directed by Alex Gibney, Musk chronicles the rise of Elon Musk in right-wing politics. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has once again sparked controversy with his response to the film. Musk called Gibney a “horrible human” and a “bitter old man who lost the plot long ago” in a recent X post. Musk also called the documentary a “hit piece that misses” and described it as “boring af.”

Meanwhile, Musk has threatened to take legal action against Gibney’s movie. In a letter to Gibney’s production company Jigsaw Productions, the billionaire’s attorney Alex Spiro wrote, “You are … on notice, before release, that the insinuation is false, that the material refuting it is public, and that you chose not to be told the rest.” (via New York Post)

In response to the documentary legal threat, Gibney said, “I reached out immediately… But he clearly wasn’t interested in talking. We made so many formal outreaches to him, and with the exception of his remarks on Twitter, we received nothing back.”

Amid Musk’s scathing response, Gibney’s documentary continues to receive widespread critical acclaim. The movie currently holds a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer.

The Musk documentary features exclusive interviews with several notable figures, including Ashley St. Clair, the Tesla owner’s former partner and the mother of one of his children. Musk’s first ex-wife, Justine Musk, journalists Kara Swisher and Zoë Schiffer, and engineers Martin Eberhard and “Godfather of AI” Geoffrey Hinton also appear.
