A report indicates King Charles will never yield to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s demand that the Palace address them as “public figures.” The tension began when Charles issued a letter clarifying Harry and Markle’s royal status. The letter clearly stated that their “position is akin to private citizens,” and further added that they cannot use HRH. The letter reportedly left the Sussexes disappointed, as they wanted to be labeled as “public figures.”
King Charles would ‘never relent’ to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ‘public figures’ demand
King Charles would reportedly not give in to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s demand to change their royal status to “public figures.” Harry and Markle are finally back in the UK after residing in California for six years. They are in Britain for an extended stay along with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Since their return, there has reportedly been confusion within the Palace about their position. Hence, the Lord Chamberlain issued a letter on behalf of the monarch, stating that Harry and Markle are “private citizens.”
Harry and Markle reiterated their demand that the Palace address them as “public figures.” However, according to a report by Radar Online, the monarch is highly unlikely to change their royal status. A source told the outlet, “The King is never going to relent simply because Harry and Meghan dislike being described as private citizens.”
The monarch is reportedly concerned that, if he accepts their demand, Harry might use the wording in his legal arguments about security. He could argue that, as a public figure, he deserves a certain level of protection in the UK.
The source continued, “Charles does not want Palace language becoming ammunition in another dispute.” As the King’s son, Harry demands recognition as a “public figure.” However, the insider noted that the Palace does not want to do anything that might “conceivably strengthen Harry’s position in his continuing security fight.”
