Netflix has pulled the plug on one of its romance dramas. The streamer has cancelled the series, led by a major Batman voice actor, after two seasons. The show ended just weeks after its second season’s release in July.
According to Variety, Netflix canceled Ransom Canyon. Josh Duhamel led the series, voicing Two-Face in Batman: The Long Halloween alongside Minka Kelly. Duhamel played rancher Staten Kirkland, while Kelly portrayed musician Quinn O’Grady.
The TV-MA-rated show stayed in the Netflix Top 10 for five weeks during its first season. However, that feat lasted for just three weeks for Season 2. Netflix renewed the series for an eight-episode second season, two fewer than its original 10-episode order. Season 2 reportedly improved creatively, according to Deadline, but its viewership declined. The new season opened with 4.1 million views, down 43% from Season 1’s 7.2 million.
Fans are devastated by the show’s cancellation. @shu_porangporan on X said, “Netflix, I’ll never forgive you for canceling this series and ruining these two couples and leaving me without seeing Quinn and Staten’s happy life fly high.” @de__sidera chimed in, “But are we kidding or what. But how can you cancel Ransom Canyon?”
@JimmyClarke__ absolutely loved the show and said, “Noooo! I absolutely loved Ransom Canyon. I needed a stupid show where everyone owns a ranch.” @Gregpuna compares the cancelled show with Stranger Things’ stature and said, “If a show on Netflix isn’t a global phenomenon like Stranger Things, they cancel it. Ransom Canyon was good.”
What was Netflix’s Ransom Canyon TV show about?
Created by April Blair, the romantic neo-Western series adapted Jodi Thomas’ book of the same name. Ransom Canyon followed the intersecting lives of several families in the Texas Hill Country. The story centered on three ranching families dealing with conflicts involving their land, relationships, and family legacies.
Season 2 centered on Staten Kirkland trying to reclaim his family’s Double K Ranch. Meanwhile, Quinn O’Grady faced a choice between returning to her small Texas hometown and pursuing her life in New York.
Alongside Duhamel and Kelly, the show also starred Jack Schumacher, Lizzy Greene, Casey W. Johnson, Marianly Tejada, and Garrett Wareing, among others.
As of writing, the two-season show holds an overall average critics’ score of 49% and an audience score of 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. The cancellation means the Texas-set drama will end after 18 episodes across two seasons. Both seasons remain available to stream on Netflix.
