Nicole Kidman has opened up about feeling deeply lonely after winning her first Oscar. The actress recalled how her career high also became an important moment in her personal life following her divorce from Tom Cruise.
While promoting Practical Magic 2 on the Sept. 10 episode of the Therapuss podcast with host Jake Shan, she admitted, “I was beyond lonely. I had the pinnacle of my success, and I went home and was so lonely,” via People.
Looking back, she said the experience made her realize professional success didn’t replace the personal connection she wanted. The Babygirl actor added, “So, yeah, crazy, though, that sort of the confluence of events where you go, ‘I wish…’ I had my mom with me and my dad, but I was like, ‘Where’s my partner, someone that I can share this with?’ It was one of the most profound moments where I went, ‘I’ve got to get a life.'”
Kidman won the Best Actress Oscar for portraying Virginia Woolf in The Hours. She received the award at the 2003 ceremony, two years after her divorce from Cruise.
