A source claims that Meghan Markle was never offered a role in the UK crime drama “The Gentlemen.” The news follows rumors that the Duchess of Sussex had secured an acting opportunity in the UK recently. The timing is notable, as Season 2 of the hit series just premiered exclusively on Netflix on September 3, 2026.
Source reveals Meghan Markle reportedly never got the offer from ‘The Gentlemen’
Meghan Markle was reportedly never in line for a role in Guy Ritchie’s series “The Gentlemen.” According to what Page Six Hollywood has learned, a casual conversation with a casting director was misinterpreted as a formal offer to join the show. That simple misunderstanding quickly spiraled into global headlines.
The confusion traces back to August 21, when Deadline released an “exclusive” stating that Markle was in “preliminary conversations to join Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series ‘The Gentlemen’ for Season 3.” Later, they revised the phrasing to say she was “in talks to join Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series ‘The Gentlemen’ for Season 3.”
However, insiders told Page Six Hollywood that the Duchess never had an actual offer. They clarified it was just a one-time discussion with the casting director for the series. “She took it as an offer. And it wasn’t,” the source explained. “And [she and Prince Harry] thought it would be helpful in the moment for there to be a reason for their move.”
A second source confirmed that there was never a formal offer. However, they insisted that Ritchie himself sparked the interest in Markle joining. WME, which represents both Markle and the director, declined to comment when contacted.
The update comes as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s $25 million Spotify deal is no longer active. The pair’s Archewell Productions deal with Netflix is reportedly struggling as well, and their Sundance documentary “Cookie Queens” has grossed $625,459 at the box office since its August 7 theatrical release.
Meanwhile, high-profile casting opportunities in London remain limited. Additionally, on Tuesday, King Charles indicated that the Sussexes’ roles as working royals would not be required.
