Busy Philipps Drops Massive Update 6 Months After Brain Surgery

Busy Philipps has reached an important point in her recovery after brain surgery. And the latest news is something different than what she feared; it is a positive news. Six months after having a brain tumor removed, the 47-year-old Mean Girls and Cougar Town star has revealed that her latest MRI found no signs of tumor progression.

Philipps shared the update on Instagram on Tuesday, Sept. 8, after completing her six-month scan.

“Guys, I got my six-month scan, MRI, and it was no sign of the tumor,” she said in the video.

The result comes after a challenging start to the year for the actress. Doctors discovered a rare brain tumor during a full-body MRI in February, leading to her first surgery in March. The tumor was caught early enough for surgeons to remove it completely, and she did not need chemotherapy or radiation.

Philipps later had to undergo another procedure in April after her incision became infected.

Now, six months after the original surgery, she appears to be in a much more reassuring place. She also marked the milestone on Instagram, celebrating that the operation had removed the tumor from her brain.

Meanwhile, her MRI did find a sinus infection, which Philipps said may explain why her left eye had been red and painful. But for her, that was an easier problem to face compared with what the scan could have shown.

“I don’t know what the hell is going on,” Philipps said with a giggle. “But no tumor, so I guess I’ll take a sinus infection over a brain tumor, any day!”

In her PEOPLE cover story, Philipps previously revealed that the tumor was a grade 2 oligodendroglioma, a malignant but highly treatable type of brain tumor. She said a Prenuvo scan helped lead to the diagnosis.

For now, though, Philipps has one major piece of good news to celebrate, which is that her six-month MRI showed no signs of tumor progression.
