John Malkovich’s Israel Return Takes a Wild Turn After Fake Quote

John Malkovich, known around the world for his intense performances and distinctive voice, has been making headlines for a reason connected to his return to Israel. However, the story has now taken a wild turn after a fake quote surfaced.

John Malkovich cancels his Tel Aviv show after a PR firm falsely quotes him

The 72-year-old planned to bring his musical show, The Music Critic, to Israel. However, John Malkovich canceled his Tel Aviv show after a press release firm falsely quoted him, a controversy the actor addressed on Tuesday.

Malkovich said, “A PR company hired by the Israeli promoter drafted a quote for the article that was attributed to me, though I never made the statements that were quoted, nor was I consulted before they were printed. I did not utter these phrases, and they most certainly are not approved by me, nor do they reflect my feelings. The fact that they were printed as direct quotes from me is unacceptable and untenable. “

“For this reason, I have decided I cannot participate in the Tel Aviv performance.” He added, according to Independent

The originally published statement by Jerusalem Post claimed, “thrilled to return to Israel and look forward to meeting the warm Israeli audience once again, to whom I feel a strong closeness and solidarity.” As Malkovich’s statement

However, The Jerusalem Post later issued a correction in its latest story. Alon Yurick, the show’s Israeli producer, clarified that a misunderstanding led to an incorrect statement in the press release. They also apologized for the mistake.

For context, John Malkovich has visited Israel twice before. He first attended the Jerusalem Film Festival as a guest of honor. He returned in 2013 to perform his stage production, The Infernal Comedy: Confessions of a Serial Killer.

As for the musical show The Music Critic, the Of Mice and Men star had scheduled the performance for April 13, 2027, in Tel Aviv. However, Malkovich has now pulled the show himself.
