A high-profile CBS News host is set to return to CBS Mornings in a new role on the network’s flagship morning program. The veteran CBS News journalist will join the show’s existing lineup, marking her latest assignment with the network. Her return to mornings adds another prominent role to her work across the network.
Norah O’Donnell returns to CBS Mornings
As previously reported, Norah O’Donnell is returning to CBS Mornings as its third full-time co-host, rejoining Gayle King and Nate Burleson on the flagship morning program. CBS News announced that O’Donnell will take her place at the roundtable beginning Tuesday, September 8. Her appointment brings her back to the broadcast more than seven years after she left the morning show.
O’Donnell was part of CBS This Morning when the program launched in 2012 and remained with the show until May 2019. She now returns to the same program alongside King, with Burleson also part of the current hosting lineup.
The appointment gives O’Donnell another prominent role at CBS News following her exit from the CBS Evening News. She stepped down as anchor and managing editor of the evening newscast in January 2025 and has since continued working with the network, including taking on substitute anchoring assignments and senior correspondent duties focused on long-form reporting and interviews.
O’Donnell is also part of the revamped 60 Minutes lineup. Executive producer Nick Bilton named her a contributor to the Sunday newsmagazine in July, adding another regular responsibility to her work at CBS News.
The changes to CBS Mornings will not replace the program’s existing regular contributors. Vlad Duthiers, Kelly O’Grady and Adriana Diaz will continue to appear on the show regularly alongside the new hosting lineup.
O’Donnell’s return is also taking place during a period of changes at CBS News. Bari Weiss became the Editor-in-Chief of CBS News in October 2025 and has introduced several changes to the network’s programs during her tenure.
