President Donald Trump‘s wife, Melania, might miss a major event related to the upcoming midterm elections. The First Lady’s reported absence will add to her streak of skipping numerous public events this year. Recently, Melania Trump ended her long absence and appeared alongside her husband at a White House event.
Expert talk about Melania Trump skipping midterms convention
According to The Washington Examiner, Melania Trump might not attend Donald Trump’s upcoming midterms convention, which could cause him trouble.
A White House official confirmed this to the outlet. However, they did not provide any reason for her absence. The reported move comes as yet another major event the First Lady is expected to skip amid her limited public appearances. Republicans are organizing the convention in Dallas on September 9 and 10. In the past, Melania Trump did attend the 2024 RNC convention in Milwaukee.
However, she didn’t speak at the event, which felt like a break from First Lady tradition. Her decision not to attend the convention before the midterms will break the tradition again.
Political reporter Sarah Ewall-Wice commented on this update while speaking on The Daily Beast podcast, calling it a “surprise.”
Wice stated, “We’ve seen Melania show up at past conventions, but Melania is over it and is not showing up for this one.” She suggested that Melania’s absence will turn the convention into a “chaotic nightmare.” Wice believed Republicans would have to connect with the voters who would become upset with her absence.
She added, “She’s not even showing up, which kind of is in character for her these days.” Wice added that Melania “has shown up all of two times this entire summer, really.” The reporter also claimed that Melania’s absence will be interpreted as her way of “snubbing her husband on this front.”
