King Charles reportedly issued a letter clarifying Prince Harry’s royal status at Prince William’s behest. Multiple reports claimed a senior palace official announced on the King’s behalf that the Sussexes are no longer working royals and will remain private citizens. Sources now allege that William pushed for the clarification as he seeks to keep Harry and Meghan Markle outside the royal family.
Prince William pushed King Charles to clarify Prince Harry’s royal status, sources claim
As per Rob Shuter, Prince William reportedly urged King Charles to issue a letter confirming that there had been no change to Prince Harry’s royal status following his return to the UK. The Sussexes flew from California to Birmingham on August 26, amid reports that they planned to remain in the UK for an extended period.
Harry and Meghan’s arrival reportedly caught the royal family and fans by surprise, fueling speculation that the couple could eventually return to royal duties. However, Charles’ recent clarification appeared to put those hopes to rest, reportedly at William’s insistence.
According to sources, the future king wanted to leave no room for confusion. A royal source said: “William had had enough of the confusion. Lord Lieutenancies were asking how Harry and Meghan should be treated. William’s answer was brutally simple: nothing has changed. They are out.”
Interestingly, an insider claimed that Harry and Meghan received the King’s message shortly before it was made public. The source alleged that there was no room for dialogue or negotiation, leaving the Sussexes with a firm decision. “That was the moment they realized they had underestimated William’s power,” the insider added.
Sources further claimed that Harry and Meghan had hoped to repair their fractured relationship with the royal family and potentially maintain an informal connection with them. However, the insider suggested they are now questioning whether their return will have the impact they hoped for. “William can close doors faster than they expected,” the source said, adding that the future king has “won for now.”
