Rob Reiner‘s posthumous Emmy win has left the hit series The Bear with a bittersweet honor months after his death. He played a mentor to Ebraheim, portrayed by Edwin Lee Gibson, advising him on expanding The Original Beef’s walk-up window and franchising the business.

Nine months after his death at age 78, Rob Reiner was posthumously awarded his third Emmy. He previously won Emmys in 1974 and 1978 for his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family.

The 78th annual Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards took place Saturday and Sunday at the Peacock Theater in Downtown L.A. On Sunday, September 6, the renowned filmmaker won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for playing Albert Schnur on FX’s The Bear, specifically for the 2025 Season 4 episode “Tonnato.”

Presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the award on Reiner’s behalf as the audience gave a minute-long standing ovation. “It’s appropriate to stand for this one,” said McLendon-Covey while addressing the audience. “I know we all wish Rob could be here tonight to share in the celebration; I’m honored to accept this Emmy on his behalf.”

The complete list of nominees for the category featured Reiner for The Bear, Michael J. Fox for Shrinking, Connor Storrie for Saturday Night Live, Brett Goldstein also for Shrinking, Hamish Linklater for Widow’s Bay, and Christopher McDonald for Hacks.

The series finale of The Bear paid its own tribute to Rob Reiner. When Ebraheim finally gets approval to move forward with the franchise, he calls Albert. The conversation ends with him saying, “As you wish,” a direct nod to the veteran actor’s beloved 1987 classic, The Princess Bride.
