Bunnie Xo said she still hoped to become a mother despite her split from Jelly Roll, and she credited Cameron Diaz with giving her fresh inspiration.
The 46-year-old podcaster discussed her plans during a Sept. 3 appearance on the Open Book podcast. Jenna Bush Hager asked whether Bunnie still wanted a child following the end of her marriage.
Bunnie Xo says Cameron Diaz inspires her to keep hoping for a baby
Bunnie immediately pointed to Diaz when she explained why she had not given up on motherhood.
“You know who inspired me a lot more too is freaking Cameron Diaz,” Bunnie said. “She just had her third child at like 53!”
Bunnie also noted that Diaz welcomed her first child with husband Benji Madden later in life. The actress and Madden share three children.
“I think that’s so inspiring, and I feel like it gives you a purpose later on in life to live for,” Bunnie said. “So yeah… I will still have a baby.”
However, Bunnie planned to handle the next stage of her IVF journey more privately. She said increased public scrutiny had made her reluctant to share every detail.
“I just feel like I need to keep it close to my chest, especially right now, because everybody just wants to pin like the craziest stuff on me,” she explained. “But it’s still a dream.”
Bunnie and Jelly Roll had previously pursued IVF together before their relationship ended. Jelly Roll filed for divorce in May. Bunnie had earlier discussed plans to co-parent with him, but she told Bush Hager that she no longer knew whether her ex-husband would remain involved in her plans for a baby.
Before the Jelly Roll divorce, Bunnie had openly discussed the difficulties she faced while trying to become a mother.
In January, she described IVF as one of the hardest experiences she had gone through.
“It’s been rough. It has not been easy, but I know that God has a plan and he’s going to make it work. I really do. I have no doubt in my mind,” she said.
Bunnie also wrote in her memoir, Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic, that she and Jelly Roll had pursued their fertility journey since 2019.
Despite the changes in her personal life, Bunnie said her goal of having a child remained intact, with Diaz’s experience giving her another reason to keep hoping.
