What to know about NBC’s Newlyweds starring Téa Leoni & Tim Daly
According to the official logline, Newlyweds is a “later-in-life love story about a free-spirited woman, Jeanie, and a buttoned-up professor, James, who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship.”
The narrative follows James, a recently divorced academic who invites Jeanie to dinner the moment they meet. What follows is a comedic and heartfelt exploration of their sudden marriage as they navigate their lives together.
The ensemble cast also features Emma Meisel, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, and Bill O’Neill.
Ahead of its debut, Leoni highlighted the perks of being married to Daly in real life, who plays her husband in the show. “One, we don’t need an intimacy coordinator because we are licensed to do whatever we want,” she said in a recent interview.
Newlyweds marks an on-screen reunion for Leoni and Daly, who previously co-starred as a married couple in the acclaimed political drama Madam Secretary. “We were kind of sniffing around to play together again. We had a lot of fun on Madam Secretary. The world got darker, and we wanted to get lighter,” Leoni added.
“We spent six years pretending to be married on TV, and I would get to do it again, but we actually are married,” said Daly.
The series is co-executive produced and written by Gail Lerner, with Jamie Lee Curtis, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, and Scott Schwartz serving as executive producers. The project is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
Newlyweds premieres on NBC on October 23, 2026.
