Obsession star Inde Navarrette is getting an Oscar push with a new campaign that features her. The news came amid the film facing a lawsuit involving profits. The awards push came as the low-budget film continues to make headlines for its commercial success and legal dispute surrounding its profits.
Focus Features will campaign Inde Navarrette for Best Actress for her breakout role in ‘Obsession’
The Obsession actress Inde Navarrette will be featured in the campaign for Best Actress for the Oscars. The campaign also has a wide-ranging effort from Focus Features for recognition for the film in several eligible categories. Along with Navarrette, the campaign will feature the film’s director, Curry Barker, for Best Direction, film editing, and original screenplay, according to Variety.
The news of her campaigning for Oscars came amid the explosive lawsuit over the film’s profit.
Producer Leonora Ann Darby sued her colleagues James Harris and Mark Lane, accusing them of not considering her for a share of profits.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Obsession earned $500 million worldwide on a reported $750,000 budget for the film.
“Ms. Darby has brought serious and substantial claims, supported by a detailed factual record. She is confident in her case and intends to pursue it fully,” said Darby’s lawyer Thomas K. Richards, a partner at Singh, Singh and Trauben, in a statement.
While producers are fighting legal battles for profits, Inde Navarrette has become one of the most popular names in Hollywood.
Navarrette’s performance has been a central part of the film’s worldwide success, with her portrayal of her character Nikki becoming the major talking point of the movie. The actress has also emerged as a breakout name for many theatrical runs.
The Studio’s extensive push for awards for the film came after Obsession exceeded expectations at the box office. Despite being low-budget, the film is one of the biggest hits this year.
Navarrette’s best actress campaign for the Oscars will establish her as one of the mainstream faces of Hollywood.
