Percy Jackson‘s creator and Wednesday‘s director have teamed up for a new Disney+ show. This show is based on the former’s most beloved books, released after the success of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.
According to Nexus News Point, Rick Riordan’s The Kane Chronicles is moving forward in development at Disney. The Kane Chronicles books are being adapted into a series with Wednesday’s director, Angela Robinson, on the project.
Unlike the author’s other books, which are based on Greek mythology, Riordan’s The Kane Chronicles focuses on Egyptian mythology. The series contains three books: The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire, and The Serpent’s Shadow. It follows siblings Carter and Sadie Kane, who are descendants of powerful pharaohs. They get involved with the Egyptian gods and must save the world from an ancient force that threatens to destroy it.
Robinson has previously directed two episodes of Netflix’s Wednesday. The director also wrote multiple episodes for How to Get Away With Murder and True Blood. However, the source could not confirm whether Robinson would helm the series or serve as a writer.
Inside Disney+’s The Kane Chronicles TV adaptation
The Kane Chronicles is currently in development at Disney. However, the adaptation stalled under Netflix for many years. In 2020, Riordan announced that Netflix was set to adapt his Egyptian myth trilogy as feature films.
However, this project never moved forward, and the rights to the books reverted to the author. Since then, Riordan and his wife, Becky Riordan, have been exploring other options for the books.
In 2024, 20th Television acquired the rights to Rick Riordan’s Egyptian trilogy, and now the series is actively moving forward at Disney. It’s still in the early stages of production, with no other cast or crew details announced yet.
This adaptation would mark Riordan’s second collaboration with Disney. It follows the success of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptation, which premiered on Disney+ on December 19, 2023. The two seasons of Percy Jackson are available on the streamer, with a third season set to premiere on November 20, 2026.
