Donald Trump called Hollywood a ‘disaster’ as he pushed a federal tax incentive bill to benefit TV shows and movies filmed in the US. His Truth Social post came after a meeting with actor and US ambassador to Hollywood Jon Voight. This follows the President‘s earlier threat to impose heavy tariffs on Hollywood projects filmed outside the country.
Donald Trump calls out Hollywood in new post
Donald Trump took to the Truth Social platform and slammed Hollywood for “getting very little work” in recent times.
The President opined on Hollywood’s dissipation “in its entirety.” He spoke of the industry’s shift to “Canada and other Countries, with very little work being done” in the US. Trump added, “Hollywood is a Complete and Total Disaster!”.
Donald Trump then urged Republicans and Democrats to come together to craft legislation that awards federal tax incentives to film and TV projects produced in the country.
In addition, he stated he met with his Hollywood ambassador, Jon Voight, who echoed similar views. Trump said the films are not getting any incentives because they are produced outside the country. He claimed that it is also “hurting California very badly.”
Trump concluded his post with, “It can be done quickly, accurately, efficiently and, importantly, will benefit ALL of America. What we watch on the Silver Screen should be made in what was once the Movie and Motion Picture Capital of the World. Let’s get this done!”
In May 2025, Trump slammed films being made outside the country, claiming they were harming the UK film industry. At that time, he threatened 100% tariffs on films made overseas. However, he didn’t impose the tariffs.
Trump’s proposal was welcomed by a Democratic rival, Senator Adam Schiff. Schiff wrote on X, “Let’s work together — Republicans and Democrats — to get this done, and bring the movie magic back to America.”
