A toddler in Florida drank from a sippy cup that had a bag of meth at the bottom, leading to the arrest of a man and other members in the home. The incident occurred back in February, but it was only until late August that police arrested 46-year-old Mark Allen Windham, who is accused of being the one responsible for placing the drug in the cup.
Windham is the fifth person arrested in connection to the toddler case
On February 24, investigators from the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office learned that a 1-year-old was exposed to methamphetamine and arrested multiple people connected to the incident, according to a post from the department on its official Facebook page.
They found that the toddler had taken a sip from a cup before the parents uncovered a bag of meth at the bottom, per Fox 35 Orlando. Instead of the parents calling 911 immediately, however, the child later began vomiting. That’s when the mother took the toddler to a fire station where the child was then taken to a hospital for a possible overdose.
Police say four of the suspects — Hayden Simmons, Damien Windham, Erica Foley, and Judith Addison — identified Mark Windham as the person who owned the meth. Simmons and Damien Windham told detectives that they witnessed Mark Windham putting the contents of his cup into the toddler’s drink, though it is unclear if there was meth in his cup before it was poured.
While the warrant for Mark Windham’s arrest was issued on February 26, he was booked into the Nassau County Jail & Detention Center on August 22. He has been charged with child neglect causing great bodily harm and possession of drug paraphernalia with residue.
At the time of writing, he remains in custody by the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office and is held on two bonds totaling $27,500. The NCSO did not provide information on the toddler’s health status or custody arrangements after being medically treated in February.
