More than two decades after the original, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is getting a sequel at Paramount. The 2003 romantic comedy starred Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Hudson is now returning for the sequel as a producer alongside Stacey Sher.
A How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days sequel is apparently now in early development
The film is still in the early stages of development, with the studio currently searching for a screenwriter, according to Variety. The studio hopes Hudson and McConaughey will reprise their roles from the original 2003 romantic comedy. Hudson portrayed Andie Anderson, a magazine writer, while McConaughey played advertising executive Benjamin Barry.
Hudson entered the film after winning a Golden Globe and receiving an Oscar nomination for Almost Famous. McConaughey, meanwhile, had starred in several romantic comedies, including The Wedding Planner.
The film drew mixed reviews but still proved to be a box-office success at the time. It grossed $180 million worldwide, making it a commercial success and a staple among romantic comedy films. Directed by Donald Petrie, the film also starred Kathryn Hahn, Adam Goldberg, Thomas Lennon, Michael Michele, and Shalom Harlow.
The development comes amid Paramount’s efforts to merge its movie and television businesses with Warner Bros. Discovery. Although it remains unclear whether the duo will reprise their roles, McConaughey recently revealed that the film is his favorite rom-com of his career.
During an appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 56-year-old actor said, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is the gift that keeps on giving.” McConaughey, who has also starred in films like Failure to Launch and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, further stated, “I think it’s probably my favorite rom-com I’ve done. And a lot of people love that rom-com. It still pays the best mailbox money film I’ve ever done.”
