Demi Lovato’s animated feature Smurfs: The Lost Village has found considerable success on Netflix. According to FlixPatrol, it currently ranks 10th on the platform’s US movie charts. Other entries on the list are Facing El Chapo, To Catch a Cheater, Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing, Don’t Say Good Luck, The Great Wall, The Last House, 72 Hours, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and The Dating App Killer: The Monica White Story.

Kelly Asbury, who previously helmed movies like Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and Shrek 2, directed The Lost Village from a script by Stacey Harman and Pamela Ribon. The movie is an adaptation of the Belgian comics artist Peyo’s The Smurfs series and serves as a reboot of Sony Pictures Animation’s previous movies based on the franchise.
Lovato voices Smurfette, the main protagonist, in the movie. The voice cast also includes Mandy Patinkin as Papa Smurf, Joe Manganiello as Hefty Smurf, and Julia Roberts as Smurfwillow. The plot revolves around Smurfette and her friends as they search for the titular lost village in the hopes of finding it before the evil wizard Gargamel, voiced by Rainn Wilson.
Although the movie was a commercial success, it didn’t perform well with the critics. The Lost Village currently has a 41% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Sandy Schaefer of ScreenRant gave the movie a positive review, writing, “The Lost Village is standard, kid-friendly entertainment, but it succeeds at bringing the colorful Smurfs universe to playfully animated life.”
