Director Adrian Lyne shared a humorous scene from Fatal Attraction that briefly showcased Michael Douglas‘ privates. He was referring to the movie’s first intimate scene that takes place in Alex Forrest’s kitchen. Moreover, he also appreciated Douglas for his sense of humor.
Michael Douglas was fully exposed for one frame in Fatal Attraction
During a screening of Unfaithful at the Academy Museum, Lyne discussed a particular sex scene from Fatal Attraction, which had a funny moment involving Douglas’ pants. Initially, he stressed the importance of including humor in steamy moments.
He said, “I think there always has to be humor. I think that’s really important, because people — especially in England and America, I think — sort of are a little bit embarrassed. So if you don’t give them something to laugh at, they’ll laugh at you, and then you’re screwed.” Lyne revealed that Douglas is pretty good with comedic acts, further appreciating his humor.
He said that at the end, Douglas tried to get out of his pants but was unable to. At the time, Glenn Close, who plays Alex, started laughing at him. Before they could proceed with the scene, Douglas asked Lyne if he really wanted to shoot it this way. Lyne revealed that Douglas was wearing no underwear as it was around his feet. “There’s one frame, one frame only, of his balls,” he added.
The scene he was speaking about was the first intimate scene between Dan and Alex, which takes place in the latter’s kitchen. Lyne revealed that he didn’t shoot that scene on the bed as he finds it boring. “It was over a sink, and what’s nice then is you think, Well, oh so there’ll be crockery in there or plates or something, and they clank around, you know, and that’s funny, potentially funny. And there could be water in the sink. It’s nice the way you sort of build on it and build on it … so she could put a hand in [the water] and she could slosh it around on her breasts,” he explained, the idea behind choosing a unique location (via Entertainment Weekly).
