According to TMZ, Shia pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor battery charges from his New Orleans case. He was sentenced to two years of probation and required to take an alcohol treatment class. Court documents say Shia has followed his probation requirements. He has also shown proof that he will complete anger management and substance abuse treatment by next month.
According to the documents, Shia refused mental health treatment. He also reported that he drinks alcohol daily. His next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 23. However, a note says he will not attend because he is shooting a movie.
Police arrested Shia after fights outside bars in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. He was reportedly caught using a homophobic slur in one encounter. The arrest resulted in the ongoing criminal case. Shia later pleaded guilty to the three battery charges.
Shia has previously talked about his drinking in 2022. At the time, he said he had reached more than 600 days of sobriety. However, the actor later spoke about his drinking after his arrest. He said he did not think he had a drinking problem and did not believe he needed rehab.
Shia must continue following the terms of his probation. According to his court papers, he will finish anger management and substance abuse treatment next month. The actor also keeps working while dealing with the case. His upcoming hearing will happen without him because he will be filming a movie.
