Rebecca Ferguson’s psychological thriller The Girl on the Train leaves Netflix next month. According to What’s on Netflix, the 2016 film is scheduled to be removed from the streaming platform on September 1, 2026.
Director Tate Taylor adapted Paula Hawkins’ 2015 psychological thriller novel, The Girl on the Train, for the screen. Erin Cressida Wilson wrote the screenplay, and the film debuted in U.S. theaters on October 7, 2016.
Rachel Watson, a divorced woman struggling with alcohol, spends her daily train journeys watching the people who live along her route. She becomes particularly interested in Megan and Scott, a couple she regularly sees from the train. One day, Rachel witnesses something shocking at their home.
Later, after a night of heavy drinking, she wakes up battered and covered in blood but has no memory of what happened. She then learns that Megan is missing and feared dead. Unable to recall the details of the night, Rachel becomes determined to piece together what she witnessed and what happened to Megan.
In the film, Emily Blunt stars as Rachel Watson, with Rebecca Ferguson as Anna Watson. Other cast members include Haley Bennett as Megan Hipwell, Justin Theroux as Tom Watson, Luke Evans as Scott Hipwell, and Allison Janney as DS Riley, among others.
Despite its prominent cast and source material, The Girl on the Train received a mixed response from critics. The film has a 44 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 308 reviews, while its audience score is 48 percent.
