Warner Bros. debuted The End of Oak Street to a solid opening weekend, landing in third place at the box office. The prehistoric survival thriller carved out counter-programming space against blockbuster holdovers dominating multiplexes.

The David Robert Mitchell film, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, added $26 million internationally for a $47 million global start. That performance landed behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which held the top spot with $70 million in its third frame, and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which grabbed second place with $23.2 million in its fifth weekend (via Box Office Mojo).

The $80 million-budgeted sci-fi adventure drew audiences seeking an original spectacle amid franchise juggernauts. Reviews have been strong, with the film holding an 86% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, audience reaction proved slightly cooler, landing a B CinemaScore.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day continued its historic run, pushing its domestic total to $785 million and crossing $2.02 billion globally. The Sony and Marvel collaboration became the second-fastest film to join the $2 billion club, trailing only Avengers: Endgame.

Similarly, The Odyssey maintained remarkable momentum in its fifth weekend, reaching $504.6 million in North America and $1.29 billion worldwide. A $36.6 million debut in China boosted the Universal release, which now ranks as Nolan’s highest-grossing film and the second-biggest movie of the year.

For Warner Bros., The End of Oak Street represents a moderate launch that could build through word of mouth. The PG-13 thriller follows a suburban family transported to prehistoric times, with Mitchell writing and directing the original concept.

Elsewhere, Paramount’s animated sequel PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie also debuted above $20 million, suggesting audiences still crave variety during popcorn season. The End of Oak Street capitalized on this demand, offering a new property among established franchises.

Looking ahead, Warner Bros. faces pressure following underperforming releases earlier this year. The studio will likely monitor The End of Oak Street’s holds in the coming weeks while preparing for upcoming titles, including the Tom Cruise-led Digger in October.
