Kathy Griffin has issued another stark assessment of the state of America, but this time, her message came with an appeal for unity. The comedian, a longtime critic of Donald Trump, acknowledged deep divisions while suggesting Americans still have a path forward.

In an Aug. 10 Instagram post, Griffin said the country faced what she called an “impossible amount of work” to become functional again. Even so, she struck an optimistic note and told followers that change was still possible.
Griffin then urged Americans to “really stick together,” adding, “We are not going to agree on every little thing.” Her post did not name Trump or cite a specific policy, but it arrived amid her continuing criticism of the Trump administration and broader politics.
That distinction matters. Griffin’s latest message focused on America as a whole rather than directly attacking the president. Still, her public opposition to Trump has been well documented.
In June, Griffin addressed resurfaced photos showing her with Trump from years before their relationship became openly hostile. She said MAGA supporters often circulate the images to question her current position, while explaining that she frequently encountered Trump at celebrity events in the 2000s.
A month later, Griffin again brought Trump into the conversation while criticizing Jimmy Fallon’s decision to interview Conor McGregor. She compared the booking debate to Fallon’s widely discussed 2016 interview with Trump and questioned how television decides which controversial public figures receive major platforms.
Griffin’s history with Trump also includes the 2017 photo controversy that showed her holding a prop made to resemble his severed head. She initially apologized after widespread backlash. The incident led to professional consequences and a Secret Service investigation, and Griffin has continued discussing its impact on her career.
Trump is currently serving his second, nonconsecutive term as president. The White House identifies him as the 45th and 47th President of the United States.
Griffin’s latest Instagram message did not revisit that history directly. Instead, she framed the moment as one that requires persistence and cooperation, even among people who do not agree on every political issue.
