Kathy Griffin Responds to Renewed Attention on Donald Trump Photos

Comedian Kathy Griffin has addressed the resurfaced photos of her with Donald Trump in a new YouTube video, offering context for the images. She said, “There was a time I knew Donald as someone who would show up at the opening of an envelope, and I would sit next to him sometimes, and he’d laugh at my jokes.”

The two-time Emmy and Grammy Award-winning comedian discussed the pictures in a June 9 YouTube video, confirming they were authentic and not created using artificial intelligence. In the video, Griffin confirmed that the images were real. She also pointed out that she is wearing the same dress seen in the photos, which shows her seated next to President Trump and financial advisor Suze Orman.

She described Donald Trump as someone who would “show up at the opening of an envelope,” and recalled sitting next to him at events where he laughed at her jokes. Kathy added, “I’m not glorifying him in his last, final days in any way. I want to show you that it is not an AI photo.”

Talking about the photos, she further expressed, “I think it captures the 2000s so much, where I just ran into Donald quite often at events, and he was ever-present. I just wanted you to know that I am aware that there are many pictures of me with Donald, and MAGA people love to post them and act like I’m a phony when I acted like I jokingly, Perseus-style, wanted to decapitate him in a photo.”

According to EW, in 2017, a controversial satirical photoshoot showed her holding a fake, bloodied head resembling Trump. She revealed, “It led to very real consequences for her in her life and career.” President Trump also bashed her and tweeted, “Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself.”

In an interview with EW in 2024, Griffin, who was previously married to entertainment marketing executive Randy Bick, said the controversy led to her losing friends like Andy Cohen and support from Bravo, where she hosted her Emmy-winning series My Life on the D-List. She said she felt that they threw her “away like a piece of trash.”
