Travis Barker has some great words of advice for his son Landon Barker, regarding his music career. The Blink-182 drummer recently revealed that Landon received an offer to appear on “The Voice.” Travis told him to turn it down for now. He explained why he thinks the young singer should take another path.

During a recent episode of The New York Times’ “Popcast,” Travis discussed the offer. “And I was like, ‘Dude, you’re way too cool for that,'” he said. He asked Landon to think about whether his music idols would take the same opportunity. Travis used Kurt Cobain as an example and said, “No,” he would not do “The Voice.”
Travis also told Landon that there “was no rush” to get to the top. He said his son should take advantage of opportunities that align with his goals. “It will come… Do things that are authentic to you,” Travis told him. He added that he has heard the songs Landon creates while working with him in the studio.
Travis said he’s not against television appearances, as he has been on “American Idol” a number of times. But, he said, his case was different as he first built his career as a drummer. “I’m different… I’m doing fun sh-t that’s just fun for me cause I’m a drummer and I’m not in the forefront,” he said.
Landon has built his music career since 2018 and released songs as OTG Landon. In 2022, he also co-wrote and was featured on Machine Gun Kelly’s “Die in California”. In 2023, he released “Friends With Your Ex,” which Travis produced, and Landon called working with his father “an amazing process.” Landon also signed with DTA Records after proving himself, reports PEOPLE.
Travis rose to fame with Blink-182 after joining the band in 1998. The band had released “Enema of the State” in 1999 before disbanding in 2005 and reforming in 2009. In 2023, Blink-182 released One More Time… which charted at No.1 on the Billboard 200. Travis has now revealed on “Popcast” that the band plans to return to the studio this year for its 10th studio album.
