The second annual Believe that Awards took place on October 14. Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards hosted the satirical ceremony celebrating celebrities and cultural moments. Bieber won the category despite being unable to attend the event in person.
Instead, the singer submitted a video acceptance speech thanking Edwards for the recognition. “Mr. Anthony Edwards himself honoring me with the White Boy of the Year award. Man, thank you, bro,” Bieber said. He then explained why the unusual honor felt particularly meaningful to him.
“This is special,” Bieber continued during his message. “Everyone knows how influenced I am by Black culture, and this one’s sweet.” He conducted by expressing appreciation and promising to connect with the organizers soon.
Bieber now joins Timothée Chalamet as the award’s only two recipients. Chalamet received the inaugural honor last year. The latest win puts Bieber ahead of contenders including Tom Holland, Travis Kelce, Norwegian footballer Erling Haaland, Robert Pattinson.
The award comes after a significant period for Bieber’s music career. He released SWAG and SWAG II last year before performing at Coachella in April. His festival appearance also featured guest performances from SZA, Big Sean, and Tems.
Edwards’ ceremony recognized several other stars across entertainment, sports, and internet culture. Druski won Main Character of the year, beating Zendaya, Cardi B, Keke Palmer, and MrBeast. Meanwhile, Michael B. Jordan received Iconic performance of the Year for his dual roles in Sinners.
Other winners included IShowSpeed, who received Creator of the Year. Jaden McDaniels won Stood on Bidness, while LaMelo Ball took home the Bring Ya A** award. Tennis champion Coco Gauff received Beauty and the Best for outstanding On/Off Field Performance.
Finally, 50 Cent received the Lifetime Achievement Awards. Edwards described the ceremony as another opportunity to celebrate culture through humor and recognition. His statement promised the event would retain its “unfiltered, totally unpredictable energy” while bringing together major names.
