Jamie Lee Curtis vies for sitcoms’ return ahead of Newlyweds release
Jamie Lee Curtis is calling for the return of the multi-camera sitcom as NBC prepares to release Newlyweds this fall. Curtis serves as an executive producer on the series and will guest star.
Speaking during a Los Angeles panel with the Newlyweds team, she said, “There’s just nothing going on that isn’t hard. People want to have a good time — they want to have a good time in the comfort of their own home, and they want to turn on a network show and have laughs and have feelings. And if that isn’t what sitcoms can do well, then I’m not sure what they do.”
The actress also highlighted the financial pressure created by cable, streaming services, and other household expenses. “A lot of people don’t have any money anymore. People are really struggling,” she said.
Her interest in the format goes back decades. Curtis previously starred with Richard Lewis in ABC’s Anything But Love in 1989 and said she has repeatedly told her agents that she wants to return to sitcoms. “It’s my favorite job,” the actress said.

Jamie Lee Curtis has revealed the NSFW title she uses for herself while discussing her role as a boss on Newlyweds. The actress described herself as the “HBIC,” which is an acronym for “Head B**** In Charge,” as she spoke about taking on a leadership position for the series.
She added, “I’m 68 years old; I have wanted to be a boss my whole life. I’ve been waiting my whole life, literally, to be able to manifest ideas and bring what I love about what I do into the workplace I do it in. I’ve been doing it not as a boss for a long, long time, and now I’m a boss, and I love it.”
Curtis also joked about the similarities between herself and her character. “I’m really a b****,” she quipped.
