Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are facing another development in their ongoing steakhouse lawsuit. The two Kansas City Chiefs stars, who are being sued by a company called 1587 Sneakers, are facing allegations of trademark infringement over their joint venture, 1587 Prime steakhouse.

According to Heavy, the dispute centers on ‘1587,’ a name that pays tribute to the NFL stars by blending Mahomes’ 15 jersey number with Kelce’s number 87. The sneaker brand says it owned the 1587 trademark before Kelce and Mahomes launched their steakhouse venture.
TMZ reports that the two have requested to dismiss the lawsuit. They maintain that they have no role in managing the restaurant’s business operations. They also claim they do not have sufficient connections to New York, where the lawsuit was filed.
However, the plaintiff has challenged their claims in the lawsuit. In its latest court filing, the brand states Kelce and Mahomes are trying to present themselves as “two distant celebrities that are mere promotional ‘pretty faces’ of the alleged infringing enterprise with no New York ties.”
They argue that the NFL stars should remain defendants. They stated that the two publicly promoted the restaurant and tied themselves to the business during its launch. The company claims it began using the 1587 name in April 2023 and began selling products before the 1587 Prime trademark application was submitted in December, reports Marca.
Adam King, the company’s co-founder, has said that a negotiated agreement remains a possibility. He said, “From the onset, we have communicated a sincere belief that there is room for mutual respect and understanding. That belief has not changed, and we continue to hope to resolve this matter amicably.”
