A three-time Oscar-winning cinematographer has joined Ben Stiller and Jeremy Allen White‘s new World War II movie. The upcoming film is based on Seth Meyerowitz’s 2016 book.
Mexican cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki has joined the World War II thriller, Airman, reports World of Reel. With Airman, Lubezki and Stiller will come back together after they last worked on 1994’s comedy, Reality Bites.
Lubezki is an acclaimed director of photography, thanks to his impressive career resume. He won three straight Academy Awards (2014, 2015, and 2016) for his spectacular cinematography in Gravity, Birdman, and The Revenant, respectively. The Mexican cinematographer was the first person to achieve this rare milestone in the history of the Academy Awards.
What we know about Ben Stiller and Jeremy Allen White’s Airman
Airman movie will follow Seth Meyerowitz’s book from a decade ago, titled The Lost Airman. The plot will recount Seth’s grandfather Arthur Meyerowitz’s experience as an American turret gunner whose B-24 was shot down in 1943, in Vichy France.
When trying to hide himself in France, Meyerowitz was helped by Marcel Talliander, a founder of the Morhange resistance group. Arthur spent six months while marginally escaping the Gestapo. The escape plan also involved R.F.W. Cleaver, one of the most respected and decorated British pilots.
Ben Stiller is expected to both direct and play his character in the movie. As for his recent projects, the acclaimed actor was seen in 2025’s well-received movie Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost, where the story focused on his late parents, Anna Meara and Jerry Stiller.
Jeremy Allen White will soon appear in The Social Reckoning, a sequel to 2010’s The Social Network. The film will see him in the role of Jeff Horowitz. The movie also stars Academy Award winner Mikey Madison alongside Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg.
As for Airman, the World War II thriller has yet to receive an official release window.
