Jeremy Allen White says he feels nervous about children and social media in a new interview for his upcoming movie, The Social Reckoning. White plays the Wall Street Journal reporter in the legal thriller.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, White was asked how the movie shaped his perspective as a father on what kids should access online. He replied, “I get really nervous about young people, and certainly my own children, with this stuff.”
White said a phone puts the whole world in front of kids and explained they end up comparing themselves to everything and getting desensitized. The 35-year-old added he wants the young kids to develop their own identities before facing that comparison online.
White also said the social media apps offer “beautiful things” and let people connect and learn. According to him, the problem starts with dependency, especially when young people begin too early. “That’s when it gets scary for me,” he said. “So I’m going to try to keep my girls away from it, you know, as long as I can.”
Jeremy Allen White’s concerns extend beyond his own family as he reflects on the wider impact of social media
Jeremy Allen White’s worries go past his own home. Speaking with Variety, he called the issue incredibly important. “There needs to be safeguards in place.”
