‘Too Invested in Being an A—hole’: Anya Taylor-Joy Brutally Slams Method Actors

Anya Taylor-Joy recently sat down for an interview to promote her upcoming series, Lucky. During the conversation, she shared how women don’t indulge in method acting like men.

Anya Taylor-Joy on why women don’t method act

In her interview with Complex News, Anya Taylor-Joy shared why women don’t method act. “If you’ll notice, women don’t method act because we have things to take care of, so we can’t completely lose our minds,” she said.

The Queen’s Gambit actress continued that she views “acting as a controlled psychosis in a way.” She expressed it’s like “pretending to be somebody else and having their thoughts 16 hours a day and moving like them, in their house, in their clothes.”

Taylor-Joy added, “It’s like having a sister or a roommate check in up [in my mind] for a little bit.” The actress continued, “I’m just very grateful that the people in my life understand that and know that.”

Additionally, she said, “Sometimes if it gets out of hand, they’ll call me by the character name and they’ll be like ‘we need to check in again.” The 30-year-old added, “But I can’t imagine keeping it up all the time because, again, you’re going to work with hundreds of people and it is your responsibility to be good to them and to help them do their best job.”

Additionally, Taylor-Joy shared, “If you’re too invested in being an a******, then that’s not gonna be very fun. Over the years, Taylor-Joy has given many memorable acting performances. Her breakthrough came in the horror film The Witch.

The actress’s other works include Thoroughbreds, Split, Glass, and Peaky Blinders. She gained recognition for her role in The Queen’s Gambit. Moreover, she won Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for the series.

In Lucky, she plays the role of Luciana “Lucky” Armstrong. Besides acting, she is one of the executive producers of the miniseries. Taylor-Joy will also be seen in Dune: Part Three and The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
