George Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, had to evacuate their home in France amid heartbreaking circumstances. The Clooneys purchased the historic Provence estate, known as Domaine du Canadel, in 2021. The 425-acre property has long been described as a quiet retreat for the couple and their twins, Ella and Alexander.

Amid widespread wildfires across Europe, George and Amal Clooney have evacuated their residence in France. The family, including their 9-year-old twins, lives in Brignoles in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. Their home lies in one of several zones now facing wildfires spreading across southern France, as well as in Spain, Italy, and Greece. A representative for Clooney confirmed that the couple informed the mayor of Brignoles of their evacuation in a letter.
“Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment. As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise 2 things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and i are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there,” the letter read (via PEOPLE).
France’s wildfires have reportedly grown to four times the size of Paris. The evacuations have been massive, with roughly 224,000 people in Gironde and 36,000 people evacuated in Landes. Around 3,000 people were instructed to leave their homes in the region of Var, CNN reported. Additionally, Spain has seen at least 63,152 evacuations, and in Greece, three firefighters lost their lives.
Speaking to Esquire in October 2025, George Clooney had discussed why they made a French farm their primary residence. “A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it,” shared the actor. “But now, for them, it’s like—they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”
