Frustration is mounting among congressional Republicans over Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s handling of the five-month-old Iran war. GOP lawmakers now reportedly claim a loyalty-first culture at the Pentagon is preventing President Donald Trump from receiving honest assessments about a war showing few signs of progress.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, a Republican member of the House Armed Services Committee alleged Pete Hegseth is reluctant to say hard truths about the war on Iran. “Hegseth is afraid of Trump and won’t be as honest as he should about the war for fear of losing his job,” they said.
The lawmaker argued the president is “surrounded by a bunch of fearful yes men who can’t tell POTUS the truth.” Even offered a bleak outlook on the conflict’s trajectory. “I see very few ways to wrap up Iran other than to withdraw and somehow market that as a win.”
Furthermore, a Republican senator on the Senate Armed Services Committee aimed General Dan Caine, Trump’s Joint Chiefs chairman. The senator alleged Caine has blocked Admiral Brad Cooper, who runs Central Command operations against Iran, from briefing Donald Trump directly. “General Caine is making a mistake by not encouraging the president and Admiral Cooper to sit down and hear his view of how this operation could be successful,” they said.
They described Caine as “abundantly cautious” about backlash to a sustained operation. Also called that approach “not a formula for getting out of conflict successfully.” The senator demanded the field commander speak straight to the commander-in-chief.
However, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell rejected the accusations. “Secretary Hegseth gives honest, comprehensive advice to President Trump on a regular basis, including counsel from CENTCOM Commander Admiral Cooper,” Parnell said. He added that Trump surrounds himself with top experts and that voters chose him to make the critical decisions (via The Daily Beast).
The economic toll now adds to the political pressure. Gas and grocery prices keep climbing, straining American households. Nearly two-thirds of Americans view the conflict as a lost cause.
