Prince Harry’s Joke During UK Speech Turns Heads After Court Setback

Prince Harry made a remark in a UK speech that turned heads after his lawsuit loss against the Daily Mail. The High Court ruled against him and other claimants who alleged that the newspaper engaged in unlawful information gathering. Harry cracked the joke during one of his first events since arriving in the UK on Monday, July 6, for a visit marking the countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.

Prince Harry kept his composure as he spoke in London on Tuesday, moments after news broke of his defeat in the privacy lawsuit. He welcomed guests at the 14th Invictus Games Foundation Conversation: From Policy to Practice at Chatham House. The Duke of Sussex took to the stage soon after a High Court judge dismissed his case against Associated Newspapers Limited.

For context, Harry was among other litigants, including Sir Elton John, Elizabeth Hurley, and Baroness Lawrence, who accused private investigators, freelance journalists, and ANL employees of Illegal intrusion. In a joint statement issued after the verdict, the Duke of Sussex and Baroness Doreen Lawrence said: “It is a complete and obvious whitewash, but sadly not altogether unexpected.” They added: “We came to court seeking justice and accountability. But we have received neither.”

Despite everything, Harry appeared in good form as he delivered his later address.

According to Page Six, he thanked the charity’s “supporters, partners and sponsors,” before adding with humor, “It is one of the few rooms … in the UK that has air conditioning, so I can understand why every seat is full.” “I get it,” he said with a grin while the room broke out in laughter.

Prince Harry delivered a six-minute speech on the Invictus Games with poise. The foundation organizes an international multi-sport competition for wounded, injured, and ill service members and veterans. He wrapped up by underscoring the “one belief” at the heart of the organization: “The unconquered human spirit exists in every nation and our shared responsibility is to create the conditions in which it can flourish.”

As for outstanding matters, the court has set hearings for July 29 and 30 to resolve any unresolved disputes.
