Charles Barkley declined the invitation to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding, afraid that it would be a “crap show.” Swift and Kelce tied the knot in Madison Square Garden on July 3 and hosted over 1000 guests, including numerous celebrities. The NBA legend recently revealed the reason he skipped the nuptials.
Charles Barkley had a reason to snub Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s long wedding guest list included Hollywood A-listers as well as sports legends. During his appearance on the July 7 episode of Unfiltered With Ricky Bo & Bill Colarulo, Charles Barkley was asked if he did not get the invitation to the “royal wedding at Madison Square Garden.”
The TV analyst replied, “I don’t go to weddings and funerals. I did get an invite, and I politely declined. Because I thought it was gonna be a crap show.” He stated that he loved the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and his brother, Jason Kelce, and that he had met Swift once. This, however, did not compel him to attend the wedding as it did not line up with his off-season plans.
“That’s just too much,” he said. “I just wanna hang out and play golf, and I don’t wanna dress up and all that other stuff. But I appreciate the invitation; it was pretty special.” It was indeed special because Swift and Kelce allegedly refused to invite people just for the sake of it. Reportedly, they even declined a British royal’s request for an invitation, as they wanted to celebrate their big day with people they have strong connections with.
Barkley and Travis have appeared on each other’s podcasts. That said, the former NBA player was not the only one who dropped out of the wedding. James Taylor, Ryan Seacrest, Robert Pattinson, and Mark Hamill have also confirmed that they did not attend despite receiving an invitation.
