The horror anthology franchise V/H/S has revealed the ninth entry in the film series. It will take place in the SCP (Special Containment Procedures) Foundation universe, an online collective fictional initiative.
Notably, the first entry in the V/H/S franchise came out in 2012, and it has since become one of the most prominent indie horror franchises of recent years. Shudder is one of the owners of the franchise.
V/H/S: SCP set for a theatrical release next year
The movie, titled V/H/S: SCP, will debut in theaters sometime in 2027, as per Variety. Indie horror production company Spooky Pictures has teamed up with Image Nation Studios to develop the movie.
The former label’s Roy Lee and Steven Schneider will produce it with Josh Goldbloom and Michael Schreiber. Meanwhile, Image Nation Studios CEO Ben Ross and Spooky Pictures’ Rami Yasin will serve as executive producers.
Further, Goldbloom has been part of the team behind V/H/S movies for a long time, producing V/H/S/94, V/H/S/99 and V/H/S/Halloween. Schreiber has also contributed to some of these movies, including V/H/S/94 and V/H/S/Beyond.
“The horror genre continues to be a remarkable launchpad for new talent to share original creations, and the vast SCP universe has provided a vital incubator for this creativity to thrive,” Steven Schneider, the co-founder of Spooky Pictures, noted in a press release.
He added, “Along with INS, this next project reinforces our shared commitment to look in new and unexpected spaces for stories. We can’t wait to expand the V/H/S franchise with new fresh and terrifying stories that will keep viewers coming back for more.”
The SCP wiki started in 2008 as a shared universe. The titular SCP Foundation is a shadowy organization that apprehends and studies paranormal, supernatural, and other unusual phenomena. In the years since its launch, the SCP universe has expanded across mediums such as short films, games, and web series. V/H/S: SCP will be its first foray into feature-length projects.
Variety reports that the movie will have the framing of “recovered field documentation.” Like other entries in the V/H/S franchise, it will follow an anthology format, exploring eerie objects, entities, and events through a series of containment breaches.
