Donald Trump Calls Communism a ‘Cancer’ Days After ‘Greatest Communist’ Remark

President Donald Trump recently labelled communism as a “cancer” during his Fourth of July speech. The remark comes a week after Trump reportedly said he had been “the greatest communist in history,” while denouncing communists.

Donald Trump moved from a provocative boast to a cancer comparison

Donald Trump delivered an almost 40-minute-long speech at his “Salute to America” event on the Fourth of July at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. At one point during the address, the president condemned communism, calling it a “cancer.”

“As I said last night at the beautiful Mount Rushmore — what a beautiful place where Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt loomed over my shoulder as I spoke — America will never be a communist country. Won’t happen. Communism is a loser, and it always will be,” Trump said at the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence.

“The communist system is the opposite of the American system, and the communist system has never worked,” the president stated. “Our warriors did not fight communism on battlefields across the world only to have that menace rear its ugly head right back here in America. We’re not going to let it happen. We like to stop a threat like that immediately and before it begins. It’s like a cancer. You got to cut it out. You got to cut it out fast,” he continued.

Earlier in the speech, Trump stated that communists “haven’t got a chance” in the United States. He declared, “We don’t want communists in our country. Never worked and it never will work.” Trump’s latest remark comes just a week after he said he would be “the greatest communist in history” on June 26. He made the quip while criticizing communism at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Policy Conference.

“As you saw with the communists elected in New York City recently, they’re communists. They’re not social democrats,” Trump said during his speech that day. “They want to completely destroy the traditional American way of life. Communism is very easy to sell. It destroys everything, but it’s very easy,” he added.
