Andrew Garfield’s thriller movie Under the Silver Lake is leaving Netflix on July 5, 2026. Directed by David Robert Mitchell, the movie hit theaters on April 19, 2019. It centers around a young man investigating the disappearance of his neighbor and uncovering a strange conspiracy in the process.
Under the Silver Lake was made on an estimated budget of $8 million. However, it failed to make an impression at the box office. Produced by A24, the movie opened with just $35,270 in two theaters. It went on to take in a collection of $46,083 at the domestic box office. In the international market, Under the Silver Lake earned around $2 million. This brought the movie’s total collection close to $2.1 million (via Box Office Mojo).
Both critics and audiences gave the movie a mixed response. On Rotten Tomatoes, Under the Silver Lake received a 58% score on the Tomatometer based on critics’ reviews. The movie got a similar score of 58 percent on the Popcornmeter based on audience reviews.
Following the movie’s release, Garfield spoke about transitioning to a challenging role after playing Spider-Man. He reportedly told UPROXX in an interview that he wanted to become an actor known for taking on different kinds of roles and stories, rather than getting comfortable with a particular type of character (via The Playlist). Notably, the film also contains a direct reference to Spider-Man, which Garfield said he enjoyed greatly.
