James Gunn is getting trolled again after he made a mistake while talking about Rick Flag Sr. on his social media profile. This follows the release of Supergirl and the reviews the movie is receiving. Helmed by Craig Gillespie, the movie features Milly Alcock, Jason Momoa, David Corenswet, and more.
James Gunn gets called out for Rick Flag Sr. mistake
The DC co-CEO is receiving massive backlash on social media after he made a mistake while lauding Rick Flag Sr. Actor Frank Grillo portrays the character in the live-action DCU and the animated series, Creature Commandos.
In his X (formerly Twitter) post, James Gunn wrote, “Rick Flag Sr. is proof that in a world full of metahumans, a determined human can be one of the toughest people in the room. Especially when he’s played by the one and only Frank Grillo. His first comic appearance was in THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #25, written by Robert Kanigher, with pencils by Ross Andru and inks by Mike Esposito.”
What caught the attention of internet users and resulted in a Community Note was the Superman director mentioning that Flag Sr.’s first comic book appearance was in The Brave and the Bold #25 in 1959. However, the character’s real debut was in Secret Origins #14 in 1987. It was his son, Rick Flag Jr., who appeared in the above-mentioned The Brave and the Bold comic.
This comes after the recently released DC movie Supergirl received mixed responses from fans and critics. A user wrote, “Dawg Supergirl is getting nuked and your still talking about Frank Grillo?”
A second user commented, “James your blatant inability to evaluate scripts is becoming a problem, we need more eyes on these scripts before they’re greenlit. The days where generic superhero films could survive is over, stop living in 2010!” Yet another user added, “CEO of dc studios got community noted lmao gunn is on fraud watch until Man of Tomorrow.”
On Rotten Tomatoes, Supergirl currently has a score of 58 percent based on critic reviews. On the other hand, the Popcornmeter score is 77 percent based on audience reviews.
