However, Donald Trump had already publicly revealed the reason for his absence from his son’s wedding, while congratulating the couple on a new chapter in their lives.
Ivanka Trump shares rare photos from brother’s wedding
Ivanka Trump shared glimpses from Trump Jr. and Anderson’s wedding on her Instagram. The couple reportedly tied the knot ahead of Memorial Day in an intimate ceremony on the private island in the Bahamas. A few days before, they secretly married, as evidenced by a Florida marriage license obtained by PEOPLE.
The caption read, “Still basking in the joy of these memories @donaldjtrumpjr and @bettinaeanderson ! Congratulations you two ! Love you !” What many observed in Ivanka’s photos was the president’s absence from such an important event in his son’s life.
However, Donald Trump had earlier explained on Truth Social why he didn’t attend the wedding. He cited being occupied with government duties and the importance of his being at the White House during such a crucial time. He wrote, “While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon-to-be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so.”
Trump further publicly congratulated the couple. His explanation clearly didn’t sit well with his niece, Mary Trump, who had maintained an estranged relationship with him since their 2020 falling-out. She didn’t find the president’s justification convincing and dismissed it immediately. She added, “Give me a break. He doesn’t want to go because he can’t stand his kid.”
