Orlando Bloom & David Harbour’s Video Game Movie Hits HBO Max Today

Sony Pictures’ 2023 sports drama movie starring Orlando Bloom and David Harbour has finally found a new streaming home. Beginning today, the Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story movie is officially available to stream on HBO Max.

What do we know about Orlando Bloom and David Harbour’s Gran Turismo movie?

Gran Turismo was directed by Neill Blomkamp from a screenplay written by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin. The film was based on the real-life story of Jann Mardenborough, who became a professional racecar driver after entering the GT Academy competition, which enlisted the world’s best Gran Turismo video game players. The cast included Archie Madekwe as Jann, Harbour as Jack, Bloom as Danny, Darren Barnet as Matty, Djimon Hounsou as Steve, Geri Halliwell-Horner as Lesley, Daniel Puig as Coby, Josha Stradowski as Nicholas, Sang Heon Lee, and Thomas Kretschmann.

“Based on the unbelievable true story of a team of unlikely underdogs, the film follows a struggling working-class gamer, a failed former racecar driver, and an idealistic motorsport executive,” reads the synopsis. “Together, they risk it all to take on the most elite sport in the world. Gran Turismo is an inspiring, thrilling, and action-packed story that proves that nothing is impossible when you’re fueled from within.”

Gran Turismo was produced by Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Doug Belgrad, and Dana Brunetti, with game creator Kazunori Yamauchi, Hall, and Baylin serving as executive producers. During its theatrical run, the film earned a worldwide gross of around $122 million at the box office against a reported budget of $60 million. It currently holds a Popcornmeter score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.
