A drama movie starring Jennifer Lopez and two Oscar winners has become a major success on streaming. Despite the presence of heavyweights like Lopez, Robert Redford, and Morgan Freeman, the movie was a critical and commercial failure at the time of its release. However, it seems that the feature has finally found its audience.
An Unfinished Life ranks high on Paramount+ charts
The 2005 drama movie An Unfinished Life has become a major hit on Paramount+, occupying the second spot on the platform’s movie chart as of June 2, 2026, according to FlixPatrol. Meanwhile, Scream 7 currently holds the top place. The other entries on the list are Top Gun: Maverick, Primate, 21 Jump Street, 1996’s Scream, Scary Movie, Texas Rangers, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, and Roofman.
Notably, the data from FlixPatrol isn’t necessarily complete. However, it does give a broader picture.
Lasse Hallström directed An Unfinished Life from a script by Virginia Korus Spragg, who developed it from Mark Spragg’s book of the same name.
The film’s plot revolves around Redford’s Einar Gilkyson, who leads a quiet life at a ranch with his friend Mitch Bradley (Freeman). Things take an unexpected turn when Lopez’s Jean Gilkyson shows up at their door. Jean is the widow of Einar’s late son Griffin and is struggling to raise their daughter, Griff. As Einar holds Jean responsible for Griffin’s death, sharing a home becomes increasingly difficult, but they must find a way to navigate through their grief together.
The movie’s cast also includes Josh Lucas as Crane Curtis and Becca Gardner as Griff Gilkyson. As mentioned above, An Unfinished Life performed poorly at the box office. It made $18.6 million globally (via Box Office Mojo). It currently has a 53% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 139 reviews. Anna Smith of Empire Magazine was one of the critics who gave the movie a positive review, calling it a”wistful small-town drama,” and adding that it is “predictable and pleasant, with enjoyable performances.”
