Jason Statham’s Box Office Flop Has Found New Life Since Streaming Debut

A Jason Statham thriller that struggled to make noise in theaters is finding a fresh audience. The film has surged to the top of Starz’s streaming rankings, giving it a second chance with viewers. Statham’s recent action dramas are now outperforming several popular titles on Starz despite their modest box-office performance.

Jason Statham’s Shelter has topped Starz’s charts after streaming debut

The action thriller, Shelter, recently climbed to No. 1 on Starz’s Top 10 movies list in the United States on June 1, 2026 (via Flix Patrol). It currently sits ahead of titles such as The Housemaid, 211, The Man in the White Van, and Trouble Man!. Viewers are discovering the film in large numbers after its streaming release.

Directed by Ric Roman Waugh, this movie centers on Mason, a quiet guy who keeps to himself and lives by the sea. But his peaceful life gets flipped upside down when he saves a young girl during a brutal storm. What seems like a simple good deed quickly snowballs into a whole lot of trouble. Mason is forced to dig up old secrets and face parts of his past he’d rather leave buried.

The cast features several recognizable names alongside Jason Statham. Bodhi Rae Breathnach plays the young girl at the center of the story, while Bill Nighy, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Harriet Walter, Tom Wu, Gordon Alexander, Bronson Webb, Derek Carroll, Sofian Francis, Steven Blades, Billy Clements, Bally Gill, and Anna Crilly round out the ensemble.

The movie did not become a major theatrical hit, earning a little over $53 million on a $50 million budget. However, audience response has been more encouraging. It currently holds a 6.1/10 rating on IMDb.

On Rotten Tomatoes, it has earned a 64% Tomatometer score from critics and a much stronger 87% Popcornmeter score from audiences. These numbers suggest that fans have embraced the film more warmly than critics.

The resurgence is another reminder of Statham’s enduring popularity in the action genre. Over the years, he has built a strong portfolio that comprises franchises such as The Transporter, The Expendables, Fast & Furious, and The Meg.
