Jimmy Kimmel clarified that he has no animosity toward Donald Trump, despite their long-standing public feud. He instead revealed that he feels sorry for the president because he hasn’t received affection. This topic emerged when he spoke about his bond with comedian Adam Carolla, who is a Trump administration supporter.

Kimmel claimed he has no hatred toward Trump, but rather feels sorry for him. “He obviously didn’t get hugged a lot,” he said in a recent conversation with Vulture. The topic of Kimmel’s longtime feud with Trump came up when he shared more about his friendship with Carolla. The two are friends despite Carolla’s political views differing from Kimmel’s. Kimmel said, “I love Adam, and he loves me, and I’ve just decided that if I could change his mind, I would try to do that, but I don’t think I can. I don’t think fighting with them helps.”
He believes that Trump is “different.” Kimmel clarified that though he doesn’t love Trump, he doesn’t even harbor hatred for him. These comments came over a month after Kimmel was slammed by the president and the White House over his “expectant widow” joke about Melania during a sketch about a fictionalized WHCD. However, at that time, Kimmel claimed that the joke was about the age difference between the political couple and in no way implied any idea of the president’s assassination.
“It was a very light-roast joke about the fact that he’s almost 80 and she’s younger than I am. It was not by any stretch of the definition a call to assassination, and they know that I’ve been very vocal for many years speaking out against gun violence in particular,” he explained. In addition, he expressed sympathy for Trump and Melania following the WHCD shooting. Kimmel also stressed the importance of freedom of speech. This was because he was criticized over what he claimed was a lighthearted joke.
