HBO Confirms 1 of Its Biggest Shows Ends After Season 3

HBO is officially ending one of its biggest series with its third season. It premiered in April and ran for eight episodes. Unlike the previous installments, it drew a largely mixed-to-negative critical and audience reception.

Euphoria’s Season 4 gets disappointing confirmation

Euphoria Season 4 isn’t happening, as it is ending with Season 3. The news comes shortly after the release of the finale, “In God We Trust.”

Sam Levinson, the showrunner, confirmed the drama’s conclusion on The New York Times’ Popcast. In it, the interviewer reminded him that when they interacted a few months back, he left the door open for more installments. Clarifying that he didn’t know Rue’s tragic fate at the time, he asked if there was still a possibility of future seasons.

Levinson replied that with the story they aimed to tell, about drug addiction and its consequences, Season 3 “felt like the end to [him].” He continued, “It was such a fulfilling journey in terms of this cast, the crew, what we were able to accomplish. There are thousands of things that have to go right in order to make something like this.”

Expressing great pride in the cast and crew’s work on the story, he noted, “It’s a tragic one in the end, but it’s also the truth.”

Highlighting the dangers of drug abuse, Levinson said Season 3 was “a way of honoring Angus [Cloud].” He also called it “a prayer for the future.” Notably, Cloud died in 2023 of a multiple drug overdose.

After the interviewer again asked if the third installment was the conclusion, the showrunner replied, “Yeah. I mean, what else is there to say?”

This isn’t entirely surprising. Zendaya shared on The Drew Barrymore Show last month that she believed it was the last, teasing, “Closure is coming.”

Since its launch, Euphoria Season 3 has faced backlash for its controversial plotlines and characterization. This is reflected in the poor Rotten Tomatoes scores — a 40% rotten and a 39% audience score.

All eight episodes are currently streaming on HBO Max.
