Spin-off of Longest Running Apple TV Show Gets 100% on Rotten Tomatoes

Star City is already receiving strong early reviews from critics following its debut on May 29, 2026, with its first two episodes. Created by Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert and Ronald D. Moore, the Apple TV+ series currently holds a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. The spin-off expands the world of For All Mankind.

What critics are saying about Star City in reviews

Early reviews for Star City are beginning to surface ahead of the show’s release, with critics praising the show’s darker atmosphere and political tension compared to For All Mankind. The spin-off expands the world of For All Mankind by exploring the Soviet side of the alternate timeline introduced in the original series.

Critics particularly praised the series for combining espionage, psychological drama, and science fiction elements. Ryan Britt of Inverse wrote, ““What Star City does best is to balance the character’s individual hopes and dreams against the outside scrutiny and pressure from the state. Sometimes, and this is a compliment, you forget that this is a show about space travel.” He further added, “When Star City is at its best, it’s a slow-burning spy show with the subject of optimism under extreme pressure.”

Nick Schager of The Daily Beast acknowledged that the series initially makes it difficult for audiences to emotionally connect with characters. However, he noted that the writing gradually strengthens those characters across the season.

“Nonetheless, by the first season’s midway point, that hurdle is easily cleared, courtesy of sharp scripts that underline how everyone is twisted, mangled, and corrupted by a Soviet state that encourages, if not demands, conniving and heartless behavior,” Schager noted.

Meanwhile, Carly Lane of Collider praised the series’ visuals, performances, and storytelling. “Star City’s distinct visuals, sharp performances, and compelling narrative that pulls back the curtain on the mysteries surrounding the Soviet position in the space race all combine for a spin-off that doesn’t necessarily need to match For All Mankind’s longevity to be gripping in the moment,” she concluded.

Star City gets a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes

The series currently holds a perfect 100 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes based on six reviews. Meanwhile, an audience score has not been released yet. However, the ratings remain subject to change as additional critic and audience reviews continue to be added.
