Donald Trump could reportedly create history with a $250 bill proposal after officials in the president’s administration have urged the nation’s Bureau of Engraving and Printing to design a prototype of the note. According to a report, they have suggested preparing a $250 bill featuring Trump’s portrait. If the proposal is accepted, it would seemingly break a 150-year-old tradition that only deceased people can appear on currency notes.
Donald Trump could become first living person on a US bill in 150 years amid $250 Bill proposal
Donald Trump could reportedly become the first living person to feature on a $250 bill in the United States. According to the Washington Post, U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach and his senior adviser, Mike Brown from the nation’s Treasury Department, have allegedly been working towards the proposal. As per the employees, the duo has reportedly been putting pressure on the Bureau of Engraving and Printing staff for the same.
Furthermore, the move is said to have put the agency in a tough spot. The employees claimed that only deceased people could appear on the bill, according to federal law. Meanwhile, Beach had reportedly provided “mock-up designs,” featuring Trump’s face on the $250 note’s center. Artist Iain Alexander, who created the mock-up, told the outlet that the president seemingly called him “his favorite British artist.”
Moreover, it has been reported that no living person has been featured on a U.S. bill since 1866. Last year, legislation was allegedly introduced in Congress. It proposed that the 79-year-old politician appear on a $250 note to honor the nation’s 250th anniversary. Although it has not yet been passed, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that they have been working on the proposal.
“There is proposed legislation in front of the House, in front of the Senate to change the [law] so that a living person, Donald J. Trump, could be on a $250 bill,” he said during a conference at the White House. “At Treasury, we prepare things in advance. So we have prepared in advance that if the legislation is passed, but we will stick to the law.”
